Work continues: Care Pack distribution carries on

Even a pandemic could not stop their commitment! A big thank you to the CAL team across the country who visited the kids with care packs to make sure they were safe and well.  What led us to initiate this vital project was another side of COVID 19 – the increased rate of domestic violence and child abuse. The Chairperson of the National Child Protection Authority Prof. Muditha Vidanapathirana indicated that a 40% increase in the number of reported cases of violence against children occurring behind closed doors between the 16th of March and 9th of April 2020. Our project, distributing care packs gave our team a vital opportunity to check up on the children and also to make sure that their voices were heard. As the work carries on, it certainly helps to ‘put a smile on a tear stained face’.

Here’s what they said, when they saw us:

“Seeing you makes us happier more than having these packs”

“When will we be able to come to the centre?”

“Aney loku teacher, can you at least take me with you to your house?”

“You can give us homework, we won’t complain”

“You haven’t forgotten us, I am so happy to see you all”

The project supports our holistic approach towards the underprivileged in providing education, health and nutrition and child protection.
